Holiday Party Planning Done Right
As we approach the holiday season, usually awash with vacation parties, it got me brooding about how workers are rewarded. Certainly one of the chief reasons for hosting a company holiday party is to reward staff for their tough work and dedication, and there could be financial reasons as well.  ;
a vacation party does something else too. It creates a space for employees and management to get together not as employees, but as mates. It provides a chance for people to get together and enjoy the company of the people you work with without being worried about the base line, which is something that won’t occur much throughout the year. Sure there might be finance benefits ( see the article linked above ), but this is essentially achieved by creating a touch of goodwill that goes a good way. It lets your employees know that you value them and their work. So when I see that corporations are deciding against doing a party due to the economy I stress about the message this sends to  ; employees, lots of whom doubtless anticipate and expect some kind of year end celebration. When times are difficult, which indubitably is the case in numerous industries, it’s especially necessary to show staff you care.
If you normally do a luxurious party, of course it’s comprehensible that you’d cut back a little bit, but do not lose the party altogether. Do it smaller, faster and smarter. You can change the scale without ruining the event. If you usually hire a celeb comedian, as an example, think about employing local talent. If you typically do a lavish meal, do a smorgasboard, or a potluck. My point is do something. If you can afford to use holiday party entertainment, I’d definitely suggest it. Using a corporate comic is a good way to get people’s’s minds off the economy for 45-60 minutes and it gives your visitors a typical experience to chat ( and joke ) about for approaching months and leaves everyone feeling a little better ( just in time for the vacations ).
